Rape Me...

I live in a city which is called the Rape Capital of the country. In-fact it is the capital of India. Ten rape cases in last one month, its a shame. And yesterday, saw the news that a 17 year old girl is gang-raped by 5 boys from same locality in Noida. The girl was a minor and was willingly drinking Vodka in birthday celebration of one of the convicts. Even more shocking news was this that the victim claims that she was raped earlier also by the same boy last year. Last year in Mumbai there was a case when a girl was continuously raped by her own father for years because some Tantrik told him that by doing so he will earn heavy profits in business, she went to police when her father tried to rape her younger sister too. Now in both of these cases there is one similarity, in both the cases victim didn't complained at first, which in turn encouraged the rapist to commit the crime again.

If we look at the stats, India stands third, in World when it comes to rape cases. Ahead of India are only the United States and South Africa. According to the data, 18,359 rape cases were registered in India in the first three quarters of this year while in the US, 93,934 and in South Africa 54,926 rape cases were registered respectively. total 44,159 cases of different sex offenses were registered across India in the said period.


Now all this makes me sad. Everyone knows that there is something wrong, but what is wrong? People in other states and cities call Delhi the capital of Rape, but does that makes their city rape-free? Everyone plays the blame-game. We all know that this crime is not normal, rape is not only a physical crime, it is sexual, psychological and social crime. Victim goes in depression and sometimes never recovers. Also victim is mostly afraid of going to police, or face the society. And our society, It punishes the victim more than the rapist. Women will blame men for this kind of crime and they should be blamed. It is our society which teaches us that women are man's property, that man is superior to women, that a man is not man enough if he cannot control his women. Law states that men and women are equal, but law of society are different. A girl child is killed before she is born, if not then she lives a life under the thumb of his father. She is taught that she will always need a 'man' to protect her, and later a 'man' rapes her or beats her or molests her. Still she wont raise her voice against her husband or father or brother or any man, because if she will, then how will she survive in this society?

I just wanna tell all the women that they are equal to men. Men are in no ways superior to them. Also women should know their rights, because she may be physically not as strong as a man but she has got more rights than a man. Ladies, there are few twisted freaks out there, but you have your rigts and you are not alone, just make sure you don't do anything which gives them any chance to harm you, like that minor girl was consuming alcohol with 5 drunk boys. The day all you women will realize that you are not weak, no man will dare touch you.
